BC Flood Fundraiser

We have been fortunate to have avoided the apocalyptical floods, but I just can't sit back while others are struggling. So to help with the victims of the flood I will be donating 25% of the monies raised from the sale of any painting sold from today until Sunday to the ADRF. This is a community relief fund partnership with the Abbotsford Community Foundation, Chamber of Commerce and the University of the Fraser Valley. I will be posting the amount raised and the check going out for transparency. With Christmas around the corner, give a gift that keeps on giving. 2021 Building an art business in these crazy times.

Wow, I can not believe how much our lives have changed in 3 short years. We finally found our forever home in the beautiful Kootenays, gave up the hustle and bustle of corporate life, and have become semi-retired homesteaders. As I am not very good at downtime I needed to come up with something that fills my heart with joy as well as my free time. It has always been a dream of mine to have a dedicated art studio and a fantasy to have a gallery, Well this year, with the support and coaxing from my husband, I am finally making things happen.   One of the buildings is perfect for this endeavor, now we just need to find a contractor that will work in the middle of the boonies to bring my dreams to fruition. Until that time I am advertising as a working studio and so far from the visitors coming into or out of the States it is slowly garnering attention.   I took a few years off from selling and now I feel like I am starting from scratch, having to relearn all of the intricacies in building

Cranbrook Community Forest

Some big changes have happened to my family through the holiday, I was offered an incredible position in the location were we vacation. But this move involves leaving my husband and kids behind until the house sells. #stressful Thankfully I am able to get home regularly. So without the chaos of family life I have had a lot of quiet time on my hands, so to fill my time I try and get out hiking as much as possible.  This community offers plenty of trails in town and even more within a short drive. The Community Forest is an amazing place to go for a walk, offering plenty of trails to discover. Yesterday while I was out I took the opportunity to snap a few shots for my reference library and thought I would share. Hope you enjoy.

Old car rotting in the woods reference photos

We came across this old car rotting in the woods at Cottonwood Lake BC. It seemed to have run off the road, rolled, and came to rest at the bottom of the gully. Its motor was found a few feet from the vehicle and I'm sure this old car definatly has a story to tell. Feel free to use this pictures in your work, but please give credit where credit is due.

Beach House Mixed Media Step by Step Painting

Working over a messy mixed media background for this painting.  I quickly drew in an image of a house on the cliff. Then proceeded to carve the image out and add a little brighter color to draw the eye in. This background was just muted enough as to not compete with the focal point instead it plays right into the weathered facade of the house. Perfect. I love it when a plan works out. Hope you enjoy.

On the Cliffs - Landscape Painting Over an Acrylic Pour

I have been experimenting with a new technique of acrylic pouring with mixed results. This little 8*10 painting is one of those pours that didn't quite turn out the way I hoped, so when it dried instead of repouring it, I decided to use it as a background for another painting. I drew inspiration from the complimentary muted turquoises and rusty tones to dictate the overall theme of the painting. As there were not a lot of "pre-loaded images" to work within this pour so I had to carve out the images and work with the texture of the background. The muted blues/greys and texture also reminded me of washed out plaster of the Mediterranean so running with that I emphasized the oranges, pinks, and greens. With all the visual interest the background you don't have to worry about covering all the underpainting, just add enough detail develop your vision.

Mixed media landscape painting

This little landscape painting was created using gelli printed paper that I cut into 1 inch square tiles, shuffled them up and glues them to a small canvas. This acted as my background for this painting. This process serves as adding color and pattern to a blank canvas as well as adding some interesting texture. 4.5" * 7" Acrylic painting covered with Gelli printed paper tiles on wrapped canvas Hope you enjoy

Waterpen Sketches

Hi everyone, What a long last 6 months. It has been pretty hectic around here with travels and family and I havent had alot of time to do anything as far as market pieces. So to get back in the swing of things I pulled out my pens and waterbrush and sketched a few 10min studies. The first 2 are done on watercolor paper and the dog was done in my moleskin. A few months ago I purchased a couple of sakura waterbrushes and when combined with both a watersoluable ink pen and a permenant ink pen most of the work for me. Hope you enjoy. :)

Objects in Mirror are Closer Than They Appear - elephant painting

I was inspired to paint this big momma elephant by a reference photo taken by "exfordy" over at Flicker. Its not a position that I would want to be in. According to the story, the week before a Japanese tourist was killed after getting out of his car to take pictures and admire these magnificent animals. We have the same problem here in Banff.. ppl getting out of their cars to admire the baby bear cubs, or the cute little baby moose. What they dont understand is they have very protective Momma's close by and they will give you a licken if your not paying attention. LOL Anyways this is another miniature 2.75 * 2.75 inch artist grade acrylics on stretched canvas initialed on front and signed/dated on back included in sale is a miniature display easel $25.00 ***FREE SHIPPING WITHIN NORTH AMERICA

Stone Maiden - Still Life

This mini painting was inspired by a garden statue located at the Butchart gardens in Victoria, BC. This statue was recessed into a wall and surrounded by lush greenery and gorgeous flowers which is a beautiful contrast against each other. 2.75 * 2.75 in acrylic on stretched canvas initialed on front and signed/dated on back
